I don't see the popularity of machetes as weapons. Knifes can kill, but it's also possible to survive, if no major arteries or organs are pierced. Machetes are so big they are pretty much guaranteed to kill you, whilst removing a limb and most of your face. I'd stick with a knives, as the honour amongst arseholes creed forebids a knife Vs machete fight. Or, better still, I can be born & raised in a major western democracy, where I'll gain a good education and an MBA and end up earning $5k a day working for Arthur Anderson.

Obviously, I'd avoid being born in the USA. It's just as big a shit hole as an south American country. All those guns, cops who shoot first, then again, never bothering with boring questions. And the president is a genuine psychopath.
